Photographic Mixed-Media
as created by Jessica Burko
The images in my photographic work are captured with
a variety of 35mm and 120mm, positive and negative films.
The film is digitized and printed with an Epson ink jet printer, onto
watercolor paper. After printing, the images are mounted to wood
or cardboard, or canvas and combined with a variety of materials
including acrylic, wax, found papers and vintage photographs.
The photographic process of capturing fragments of time found in
desolate and neglected spaces fosters a connection between,
conscious subconscious, and unconscious mind and emotions.
There is a path traveled from dislocation to resolution in my work,
and an exploration of the connections between home, mind, body,
and how these notions relate to one another.
The images I create are often marks of empty architecture
and places where the body once was. I find that often while
the body is still, the mind is reeling, like the spaces inhabited,
a person may outwardly appear fine, though may inwardly
battle the struggle of something resembling stability. |
