On Drawing: Surface, Line, Mark
April 7 - May 18, 2008
New Art Center in Newton
61 Washington Park, Newtonville , MA 02460
On Drawing: Surface, Line, Mark features the work of eight New England artists who explore drawing in a wide range of styles and forms, executed in a diverse array of media. The works in the exhibit will be displayed unframed so that the texture of the drawing can be closely seen, and the hand of the artists can be directly experienced.
Panel Discussion: Thursday, April 24, 7pm
Join Co-Curator Jessica Burko & artists Thaddeus Beal & Randy Garber
for a conversation moderated by Barbara O'Brien, Director of the Trustman Art Gallery, Simmons College. This discussion will focus on the unique curatorial process for On Drawing and share how the exhibition evolved from a discussion between artists and curators into
a large scale multimedia installation.
Currently in development ~
STITCH, celebrating the whimsy, invention and creativity of contemporary artists who use stitches in their work in non-traditional ways. STITCH examines the use of sewing to create art that is not clothing, not intended to keep a person warm, and not necessarily meant for any intended purpose except to generate thought and occupy the eye.
